Death Note: Another Note history Long, long ago there was a boy named L, whose deductive abilities were so great he became a scourge on crime. Each case he took was solved and a legend was created; the great detective L. Such a treasure could not be allowed to simply perish, thus Quillish Wammy took his orphanage, the place which he discovered L, and began to search for one to take L’s place should he fall, a successor. At this point enter A and B. B was genius, of course, a child with the strange tendency to glance above one’s head and know their name without asking. Before B was even born a Shinigami must have dropped their eyes, landing into B’s. Beyond his birth, thus ‘Beyond Birthday.’ With the eyes B could see death, a skill that warped him slowly over time. He knew when his father would die in a mugging and when his mother would die in a car accident shortly after. He knew the man Quillish Wammy would die several years in the future and all the names of the nicknamed orphans, but no one knew he did. The problem with A and B was they were simply an experiment. It was impossible the successor could be found so quickly, that the test would yield results first go. Quillish Wammy was an inventor, he knew a system: create, test, fail, test again. A and B were never meant to succeed. They were meant to be trial run. They did not succeed. A, the first successor, could not handle the pressure and hung himself. B left shortly after, into the world. He had not been chosen as the next L, A had, and B was simply backup. This idea tore at B, twisted him more, and he became obsessed with L: not just becoming L, surpassing him. Going Beyond L. So he began to formulate a plan. The only way to surpass L was to beat him, so he came up with a ‘perfect crime.’ With his eyes he could see those who were close to death: he could not kill one who’s life was not yet up. He began killing, brutal experiments, completely flawless crime scenes left for L to find him. The case became known as the L.A. BB murder cases, to the world it was a string of murders in Los Angeles, the first victim with the initials B.B. To Wammy’s it was known this way as L is After Beyond Birthday. A part of the plan was appearance. B molded himself, hair, posture, mannerism, to look and act like what he knew of L. While the copy was not perfect he managed to become a ‘L,’ creating the name ‘Ryuuzaki Rue’ as an alias: RR = LL. Openly challenging L. L called upon an FBI agent named Naomi Misora, who was later killed by Kira after her fiancé was. B approached Misora in his new name, helping her through the case until the last murder. B’s plan was flawless: he would be the last victim, burning himself alive so there was no evidence who he really was, thus defeating L. L would never solve the case, never catch B, B’s ghost would haunt L forever. B would surpass L. B made a crucial mistake in underestimating Misora. Naomi figured out the clues, realized who B was just in time to put out the fire he set on himself and arrest him. B was defeated and placed in jail. In 2004 B suffered a heart attack in prison, just around the time Light Yagami first found the Death Note. personality BB was cursed from before he was born. Since his first moments B could see when everyone around him was going to die, he was constantly reminded of man’s mortality. It hardened him to death at a very young age: death was everywhere, it could not be stopped, so why fear it? To shield himself perhaps he began to identify more with Shinigami. His laugh is described as a ‘shinigami’ laugh and he brings death to those whose times are up. This strange ability coupled with his own formidable intelligence was hazardous. One can only imagine how two parents had to deal with a child who could see death and was unnaturally brilliant besides. The disaster occurred in Wammy’s House: he was made an experiment. Wammy and L most likely knew nothing of his ability, perhaps this could have been prevented besides, but the wear of the experiment, the constant death frazzled his mental state. B is aggressive, strong willed. He shoots for higher things, not just being L, surpassing L, killing himself for the sake of his plan.
